A MTV informou que Katy Perry vai apresentar o Video Music Awards 2017, que acontece em agosto nos EUA. Além de apresentar a premiação, ela também irá cantar e, claro, competir em algumas categorias. A cantora é a segunda artista com a maior quantidade de indicações ao prêmio, que elege os melhores vídeos musicais do ano. Ela tem cinco indicações, empatada com o cantor The Weeknd, e só perde para o rapper Kendrick Lamar, que disputa oito prêmios. O VMA 2017 será realizado em Inglewood, na grande Los Angeles, no dia 27 de agosto, com transmissão ao vivo pela MTV Brasil a partir das 21h. Após o prêmio, Katy vai iniciar sua nova turnê mundial, que divulgará o álbum “Witness”, lançado em junho deste ano. A turnê deverá passar pelo Brasil, com dois shows no país. Em alta demanda, ela também participará do juri do programa de calouros “American Idol”, que voltará a ser produzido em 2018.

A MTV divulgou a lista dos indicados ao seu prêmio de videoclipes, o Video Music Awards 2017. E o grande destaque foi o rapper Kendrick Lamar, que disputa em oito categorias, incluindo clipe do ano e artista do ano. Katy Perry e The Weeknd aparecem na sequência, com cinco indicações cada. A diferença é que The Weeknd entrou nas principais categorias do VMA, enquanto Katy Perry se destacou mais nas categorias técnicas. Seguindo o que já tinha feito em sua premiação de cinema e TV, a MTV aboliu a divisão por gêneros do VMA — antes, as categorias eram divididas entre artistas masculinos e femininos. A premiação deste ano ainda vai incluir uma nova categoria, chamada de “Melhor Luta Contra o Sistema”, “para celebrar videoclipes que inspirem os espectadores a se posicionarem contra injustiças”, segundo o release oficial.
