E Taylor Swift coroou seu grande ano de sucesso comercial na liderança, com 20 nomeações, seguida de longe por SZA, Morgan Wallen e The Weekend, que tem 17 indicações cada. Taylor Swift, detentora do título de mulher com mais vitórias na história do Billboard Music Awards, com 29 troféus, tem a chance de ultrapassar o recorde geral de Drake, necessitando de apenas cinco novas vitórias. Contudo, com Drake também na disputa com 14 indicações, a corrida pelos prêmios promete ser acirrada. Os vencedores são definidos com base em métricas de desempenho nas paradas da Billboard, considerando o período de 19 de novembro de 2022 a 21 de outubro de 2023. Produzido pela Dick Clark Productions, o BBMAs 2023 introduziu nove novas categorias na atual edição, incluindo Melhor Artista Global de K-Pop, Turnê de K-Pop e Artista de Afrobeats, refletindo a crescente globalização e diversificação do cenário musical. Após um remanejamento para o fim do ano, após a última edição realizada em 15 de maio de 2022 e apresentada por Sean “Diddy” Combs, o BBMAs retorna para celebrar os destaques musicais em um formato renovado. A cerimônia de premiação, agendada para 19 de novembro, abandonará o formato tradicional de transmissão televisiva, optando por revelar os vencedores através das redes sociais da revista Billboard e do BBMAs. As performances, ainda a serem anunciadas, seguirão o mesmo formato digital.
